A photo I snapped of former students raising the flag at school almost a decade ago. If we work together we can make a difference with our small actions.
A photo I snapped of former students raising the flag at school almost a decade ago. If we work together we can make a difference with our small actions.

I am overwhelmed.

But in a good way.

I've felt just had a feeling of yuck lately. Yuck at what's been happening in our country. Yuck at what people have been saying. And a yuck feeling that I can't fix it. I think most of us have been feeling it.

But today, I was reminded of all the beautiful, amazing people in our world.

I posted this morning about a chance encounter with a lady who had helped me last year and who was now in need of some assistance, thinking maybe a few people would respond to it and it would help them remember that goodness is still alive and well in our society.

But you know what? The post was very well received, by friends old and new, from nearby and from all over the country, who were just thankful for a story to remind us of the human spirit that can't be broken. Not only that, people I hadn't talked to in decades donated their hard earned money to someone they don't know, wanting to spread some kindness, to lessen the yuck if you will.

We're being told that our country is divided, and maybe it is. But we're a lot more alike than different, and good always wins over evil.

Let's keep this going. Let's start a kindness movement. Let's protest against the ideaology that we need to fight and judge one another. I'm not saying we need to agree, but let's all band together as humans and change our trajectory. We can do this.

It doesn't have to be big. Maybe just smile at someone and tell them if you like their shoes. Or go on social media and post on an old friend's wall, saying something that you thought about them the other day.

This isn't going to solve the major problems in our country. But it can't hurt.

And if you haven't heard it lately, I'm thankful for you. YOU make a difference in this world simply by being you.

Comment below if you perform a random act of kindness for someone. Let's do this!
